Surge arresters OPN-0.38 are devices that are destined to protect electrical equipment from the damaging effects of high voltages caused by switching or thunderstorms in power lines.
Surge arrester OPN-0.38 principle of operation
In normal operating mode, the current through the OPN-0.38 surge arrester is capacitive in nature and amounts to tenths of a milliampere. When an overvoltage occurs in the network, the resistance of the limiter drops sharply to units of ohms, the varistor of the limiter goes into a conductive state and limits the further increase in overvoltage to a level that is safe for isolation of the protected electrical equipment, absorbing the energy of the overvoltage pulse, which is converted into thermal energy and then dissipated into the environment. When the overvoltage wave passes, the OPN-0.38 limiter returns to the non-conductive state again. The transition time of the limiter to the conductive state is a few nanoseconds, which allows the surge arrester to effectively limit high-frequency overvoltages.
Installation of surge arrester OPN-0.38
Limiters that have passed preventive inspection are allowed for installation. Limiters OPN-0.38 are subject to visual inspection for the absence of external damage (bloating, tears, insulation cuts, cracks, dents on flanges, etc.). Before mounting the limiter, it is necessary to clean the surface of OPN-0.38 from dust and dirt with a dry rag that does not leave fibers. In case of severe contamination, the surface of the insulation is washed with soapy water, the places of severe contamination are cleaned with a swab moistened with acetone, followed by washing with a stream of tap water. When cleaning the surfaces of the limiter, the use of oils, gasoline, benzene and metal brushes is not allowed. Check the conduction current of the limiter and the insulation resistance with a megohmmeter. There should be no traces of corrosion and paint on the contact surfaces of the busbar and fasteners. When inspecting surge arresters OPN-0.38 after installation, it is necessary to check the correctness and reliability of electrical connections
