Design and principle of operation of the surge arrester OPN-0.22
Surge arrester OPN-0.22 consists of such parts as: varistor, electrodes, leads, polymer insulation. The main part of the OPN-0.22 surge arrester is a varistor. Due to its non-linearity, the surge arrester is connected directly to the wire and ground, without additional elements for closing and opening the electrical circuit. OPN-0.22 surge arrester electrodes are presented in the form of two aluminum washers on top and bottom of the varistor. These washers are provided with holes for screwing in studs, which are designed to fasten the surge arrester to the current-carrying wire and ground.
When an overvoltage of natural or switching origin appears in the network, the varistor, due to its non-linearity, sharply changes its resistance to zero, which allows you to redirect the destructive flow of electricity to the ground. After the impact of overvoltages on the limiter, the resistance of the varistor increases, which eliminates the possibility of a line short circuit to the ground. For power frequency currents, the varistor is insulating.
Surge arrester OPN-0.22 differs from valve arresters in design and principle of operation. In the design of the valve arrester, there is a spark gap in which the arc of the remaining voltage is extinguished, and the working resistor passes through itself the industrial frequency current to the ground. The working resistor, when exposed to industrial frequency currents for a long time, begins to change its current-voltage characteristic, which can adversely affect the operation of the arrester itself during overvoltage. The spark gap of the arrester is also an insulator between the operating resistor and the overhead power line. The design of the OPN-0.22 surge arrester is simpler than that of a surge arrester, so it is more expedient to use it for surge protection. If surge arresters OPN-0.22 are connected in parallel to the network, then there is no need to disconnect electricity consumers from the network, since they are not affected by destructive voltages.
Safety requirements when installing surge arrester OPN-0.22
Only persons of electrical personnel with an electrical safety group up to and above 1000 V are allowed to install surge arresters OPN-0.22. for the installation of restraints. Before installing surge arresters, make sure that no electric current flows through the wires to which the upper terminal will be connected.
Work must be carried out in accordance with the rules for the safe operation of consumer electrical installations. Installation is carried out in overalls, rubber dielectric boots, dielectric gloves, using a tool with insulated handles.
